The Wicked Shore

Vol i: The Queen of Chantilly

The English adventuress Sophie Dawes (1790-1840) caused a great scandal on either side of the English channel. Part One of this fictionalised memoir takes her from the Newport workhouse to the sumptuous Château de Chantilly, where she ‘reigned’ as the Baroness de Feuchères.

Vol ii: The Wicked Shore

Part Two of Sophie’s memoir traces her picaresque adventures in Paris with the mysterious Barry London, and the gradual recapture of her duke. After the luxury of Chantilly came the scandal of Bourbon’s mysterious death.
